RILEY’S CIVIL WAR

CHECK LIST

  • I will be storing some of the camera gear in my vehicle all day, and need a place to park that is near where I usually park, if you can reserve one parking space for me.

  • I will be filming many people all day from those in the reenactment to people attending the event, some in close ups, do you usually do a talent release for these people?

GEAR

1. Inspect dolly and set up near wagon carts, take photos of the set up. Only need 4-6ft.

2. Test fogger works, and there is enough fog fluid.

3. Small (quietest) generator for smoke machine. Is power available at Civil War site.

4. Pack 200 ft of extension cords.

5. Select cart for tracking shot (camera on cart) that has best suspension for smooth road, this may not be the “off-road” version of carts.

6. Loggers/actors will need some “sweat and shine and dirt” for face.

PROPS

1. Flags on poles for troops.

2. Mattress type pads for actors to fall onto in battle.

3. (2) fire pits, wood, lighter and lighter fluid at Civil war area.

4. Field glasses (periscope).

5. It would be a great scene to shoot a few soldiers in the tavern lit by candles and looking at an old military map.

AUDIO CHECK LIST

Check if your mics are working and will they work with this set up:

I have a small mixer that is a Kopul CMX-2-V2 that has two XLR female inputs (mic or line-level switchable)

  • Built-in trim knobs and stereo/mono switch

  • Coiled output cable with 3.5 mm TRS plug—right size for the R6 mic jack (ACTUALLY NO CABLE, BUT ORDERED ONE FROM AMAZON, IF YO HAVE ONE, THAT WOULD BE A GOOD BACKUP)

  • Passive design, no batteries needed.

Canon R6 camera uses a standard 3.5 mm stereo mic input (TRS)—the CMX‑2‑V2 output cable plugs right in.

🔗 How to Connect It

  1. Plug your mixer’s XLR output(s) into the CMX‑2‑V2’s XLR inputs.

  2. Set each input to Mic if you’re feeding mic-level, or Line if it’s coming from a line-level source on your mixer.

  3. Use the built-in trim knobs to adjust levels.

  4. Connect the included coiled 3.5 mm TRS cable from the CMX‑2‑V2 to the Canon R6 mic input.

  5. Select Stereo or Mono on the adapter depending on your setup bhphotovideo.comkettnercreative.com.

🎙️ Tips for Best Audio

  • Always start with the trims set low to avoid clipping, then slowly raise while monitoring.

  • Ensure the Canon’s input level is set to Mic, not line.

  • If you still get distortion with line-level sources, switch the XLR inputs to Mic or lower the mixer’s output level.

✅ In Summary

  • Connect XLR → CMX‑2‑V2 → 3.5 mm TRS → Canon R6.

  • Make sure levels are correctly set and trimmed.

Slow motion battle shot, low angle with smoke and fire in foreground.

The loggers are all on the ground in a row, we slowly pull back to reveal they are on the battle field as the sound of the battle slowly fades in. The Loggers in a row in uniform holding guns, they are soiled and sweaty, seated leaning back on the long stone wall by Riley’s Tavern, heavy smoke in background, dramatically backlit by a hazy sun. Coverage wide, medium and CUS. Some of this dialog may need a tweak:”we cannot fight..”

Low angle all the loggers run as camera follows, we see some fall out of frame onto hidden pads. Smoke billows, background talent fill frame if available.

Son, we can't lie down while they take our rights! Those northern boys better run. Because though we may never see tomorrow's sun, we'll teach them rotten Yankee scum!
